When will EDII applicants receive their decisions?

Hi there,

Early Decision Round II applicants will be notified via U.S. Postal Service in mid-February. If you’re an International Student, you should expect an e-mail around that time as well as a packet in the mail.

Good luck!

I’m a HS Senior who’s an International Baccalaureate Diploma candidate. I’ve noticed that when you discuss rigorous course schedules, you only mention honors and APs. Do you also take the IB rigor into consideration?

Hello there,

YES. We value the IB (International Baccalaureate) very much and consider it a very rigorous program. We will also award credit based on the final exams. Scores of 5, 6 or 7 on the Higher Level IB exams will give students college credit.

Great question, hope that helped!

Ask us a question about Skidmore!

Do you have numbers on how many applied EDII? Is the total number of applications up or down this year?

Hi there,

I do not have the official numbers yet; it has only been about a week since the application deadline, so we are still crunching those numbers. I can tell you that preliminary numbers show that we are about even with the amount of applications from last year.

Hope that helps!

Ask us a question about Skidmore!

does early decision II improve chance of getting in compared to regular decision?

Hi,

The chances of being admitted ED2 are usually better than for regular decision but typically the same as ED1 admission. So applying early provides a better chance but with no real difference between the two ED rounds. This changes from year-to-year too, based on the applicant pool and other factors, so it isn’t always a given.

Hope that helps,

can i defer and EDII acceptance

Hi there,

We don’t defer a lot of ED2 applicants – probably 2 or 3 each year. It’s more common for an ED2 to be waitlisted than deferred. Most ED2 applicants will receive either an admit or deny.

Hope that helps!

I just applied regular decision. Is there any way to check on my application status and/or will I be notified if anything is missing from the application?

Hi there,

Currently, there is no way to check the status of your application online. If you are missing anything, we will notify you. Hope that helps and good luck!

Why Skidmore?

In case you hadn’t already heard, the deadline to apply to Skidmore College is fast approaching–January 15, to be exact. Some of you may be on the fence about applying to Skidmore, and I’m here to tell you that you shouldn’t be. There are many, many reasons why Skidmore may be the right school for you. But, for now, I will list only five.

5. Creative Thought Matters. Have you heard this one before? I think at this point, you probably have. But it’s true. CTM (as we call it here on campus) permeates every aspect of campus life. From the posters on our walls to our student-athletes who double major in arts administration and geosciences to the snow art you will find on campus, creativity is all around. If you believe Creative Thought Matters — to your undergraduate experience, to the major you choose, and to the life paths you will take — then you should apply to Skidmore.

'Nuff said.

4. Creative Thought Works. Bet you haven’t heard this one yet, huh? Well, like it’s counterpart, Creative Thought Matters, this one is true too. Our alumni are so impressive, we’ve dedicated a site specifically to highlight their achievements in their careers. Check it out here. Here are just a few impressive alums: Case Button ’06 is a speech writer for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton,  Wendy Wilson ’95 is a News Editor at Essence Magazine, Ben Sargent ’00 has his own Food Network TV show, and Karen Flaherty ’74 was the Deputy Surgeon General of Navy Medicine from 2003 to 2008. Told you they were impressive.

3. Saratoga Springs is awesome. It’s an awesome place to live, eat, shop, hang out, and it’s an awesome college town. There is so much to do in Saratoga Springs you have to prioritize on the weekends. “Like what?” You ask. Well, there is the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the Saratoga Race Track, Downtown Saratoga Springs, Congress Park, Yaddo Gardens, the Dance Museum, Saratoga State Park, and Saratoga Battlefield, to name just a few. Also, you can’t beat our location. We’re close to NYC (two and half hours by train), Montreal, Boston, the Green Mountains, the White Mountains, the Adirondack Mountains and the Catskill Mountains (that’s a lot of mountains!). I could go on, but I won’t. I will say one last thing though — ChowderFest.

Creative Thought Matters in downtown Saratoga Springs too (especially while riding the carousel at Congress Park).

2. The food. You think I’m kidding, but Skidmore’s dining services should win an award for the tasty treats they serve up to the students. Oh wait, they did. We have vegetarian options, state-of-the-art facilities, AND –get this– you get a free cookie when you take the Admissions tour. That’s right, free. Enjoy this video of Murray-Aikins Dining Hall, or the D-hall as Skidmore students know it as.

1. Community. We may be small, but we are mighty. With only 2,400 undergraduate students on campus, the sense of community is strong both within and beyond our walls. Almost 90% of students choose to live on campus in either the residence halls or on-campus apartments. Our student clubs and organizations (of which we have more than 80) host multiple events daily ranging from open mic nights at Falstaff’s to clothing swaps on the Green to bus trips to NYC–there’s always something to do. We have a counseling center as well as a career services center to aid students in whatever they need as they move toward the “real world” outside of the College and an awesome Alumni Association that will always give you a reason to come back!

In regard to ED2, if a student is accepted but the FA package is not enough, is the student still bound to attend? Also does Skidmore do Gapping in FA? Last question, can an ED accepted student defer for one year to do a gap year?

Hello there, thanks for the questions! Here are your answers:

1. No, if a student is accepted Early Decision and the Financial Aid package does not meet their need, the student is not bound to attend. That Early Decision contract becomes non-binding.

2. No, Skidmore does not do gapping, we meet full need for those who are admitted.

3. Yes, all enrolled Skidmore students, including ED, can do a gap year. They have to put their request in writing to Dean Mary Lou Bates and explain what the plan is for the year off. Also, they can’t maintain matriculated status at any other school during that year.

Hope that helps. Keep the questions coming!
