Hello!

This is a great question and I am happy to answer it. You can absolutely take a gap year before coming to Skidmore.

Before you do, you must submit a written letter addressed to Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, Mary Lou Bates, detailing the reasons why you’d like to defer. You can send the letter to:

Skidmore College
815 N. Broadway
Saratoga Springs, NY 12866

Also, you can’t maintain matriculated status at any other school during that year.

If admitted, can I defer my entry for a year? I am planning a gap year prior to college but would like to defer my entry post-admission rather than applying after my gap year.

Hi there,

Yes, you can defer admission and take a gap year. In order to take a gap year, you must submit a written request to Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Mary Lou Bates and explain what your plan is for the year off. Also, you can’t maintain matriculated status at any other school during that year.
