Admissions in August

Some of you may have guessed that August is one of the busiest times for colleges all over the country–especially when it comes to Admissions–and Skidmore is no exception.

This month, two of our counselors are going international. Associate Director Ken Dunbar will be in Sao Paulo, Brazil beginning August 28th and Buenos Aires, Argentina on the 31st. And Associate Director Dean Mendes will begin his travel adventures in Shanghai on the 26th before continuing on to Hong Kong on the 28th. Their travel schedules are jam-packed with exotic places like Switzerland, Turkey, Italy, and France and they can’t wait to meet all of our potential international students!

On the home front, other staff in the Eissner Admissions Center will be traveling too. Our counselors travel everywhere from California to the New York Island and you can find them at college fairs across the country. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for news and updates on the whereabouts of our staff.

Chester tries to stay cool during the dog days of summer at Skidmore.

Never fear, we have two new counselors to help with the work load during the dog days the summer. Julie DiRoma comes to us from central New York. A graduate of Hamilton College (don’t worry, we don’t hold that against her), Julie has hit the ground running conducting interviews with prospective students and getting to know the staff around campus.

You may recognize our other new counselor, Teshika Hatch, from her days as a Skidmore student and tour guide. Teshika hails from Seattle, Washington and is active with multi-cultural awareness groups on campus. Teshika and Julie both have already been huge assets to the staff while we move forward with our admissions goals and deadlines.

We’re also gearing up for our fall open houses. Have you registered to attend one, yet? Our general open houses are scheduled for Monday, October 10 and Friday, November 11 ( a lot of you might have this day off since it’s Veteran’s Day, so we hope to see you here!). We also have open houses for dance (Saturday, October 29), studio art (Saturday, October 29), and math and science (Sunday, October 30).

August is a busy time, no doubt. But we still have time to answer your questions. Drop us a note on our Facebook page or connect with us on Zinch. See you on the road!
