The temperature of soil in developed areas is generally higher than undeveloped land at between 4-5pm on a sunny day. This can be seen on Skidmore campus where buildings and parking lots cause local temperatures to be elevated. The difference between temperatures is remarkable; soil in the North Woods is in some cases 8 degrees Celsius cooler than the soil around the academic buildings and dorms.
