Dear Alexander,
I’ve read your article about field mapping on Ipad 2 and appreciate it a lot. I am brazilian and work with railroad projects, something that requires a lot of mapping and field visits. Today, we use a software called Global Mapper on a Notebook in the car to visualize the maps we need, but this is not practical at all, so i’m looking for a new technology for that.
So i found an app for IPad called BitMap (from Nixanz), very interesting cause it allows the user to upload maps of any size (i’ve uploaded a 300 MB Map, 900MB when converted to GeoTiff). The main problem i’ve found was with the Kmz. It was able to load file with a maximium of 3000 points (not a lot when working with a 100km project).
The app is very good to open a large map, although terrible to work with Kmz.
I would like to know if you have ever worked with something like that before. The MotionX GPS HD seems to be the same conecpt, except by the fact that you’ve uploaded the map via e-mail, something dificult to do when you have a 300MB file.
I will continue reading your articles and hope we can discuss the subject.
Best Regards,
