Larry Wilmore visits Skidmore

So wait, you didn’t get the invite? No mail, no facebook? About Larry Wilmore’s visit to Skidmore? EEk!! I am very sorry. Well below is what the facebook invite looked like. Now you can feel like you were invited and we can pretend like you were much too busy to attend and not that you are probably no less than 3 hours away from campus and definitely would not have attended even if you were aware such a funny individual was visiting the campus.

Speakers Bureau proudly presents an evening with Larry Wilmore.Larry started his career as an actor and stand-up comic before transitioning to television writing and producing in the early 90s. Hes written for shows such as In Living Color, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and The Jamie Foxx Show. He co-created the animated show The PJs with Eddie Murphy and a few years later created “The Bernie Mac Show” starring Bernie Mac. Most recently he was a consulting producer on NBCs “The Office.” “The Daily Show” has marked a return to performing for Larry and he is currently developing a sitcom for himself at HBO. He also wrote his first book entitled “I’d Rather We Got Casinos and Other Black Thoughts” from Hyperion Books. Larry has been nominated and received numerous awards including an Emmy, a Peabody, Humanitas, TV Critics and NAACP Image Award.

Honestly, I am not too familiar with Wilmore’s material but I am glad I took some time out tonight to watch him do what he does best.

Now I must apologize for mentioning something so cool and having no hardcore material to show you. No pictures, no videos. There actually were none allowed. I can say this much, he was good, and I got enough LOLs in.

Dear Skidmore Pride Alliance,

Spectrum was fantastic. Thank You for such a great time !!

Love, Alta

As you can already tell from my “letter” to SPA, Spectrum was such a big hit !

As I was walking up to the venue I could see that Falstaffs* was packed to capacity. Once inside I could see that so many people dressed up and or wore masks. Fabric draped all the walls, flowers hung from columns, and balloons hovered over the crowd. All of which glowed under the black lights. Thanks to DJ Ramses (student, Danl Goodman’ 13) playing the best tracks, everybody busted some sick moves. I, for one, could not stop dancing. Oh, what a night !

Just another fantastic weekend at Skidmore.

My housemates and I made our own masks #CTM.

Some more crafty biddies.

Here are some more pictures from last night’s fun !

*Before the campus went dry and the drinking age rose to 21+, Falstaffs was an on campus bar. The space is now used for events including dinner, performances, and parties.
