Media Society and State in Modern China

A Collaborative Site by Skidmore Students

Welcome

This website is created by a group of Skidmore students to explore the fascinating and multifaceted history of media in modern China.

Here you will see seventeen short documentary films exploring five broad themes: War and Media, Censorship and Memory, China Seen from the West, Cinema and China, and the CCP and Media.

Each of the films is based on original research conducted by the filmmaker through an exploration of primary sources and secondary scholarship.

Select one of the five topics above to watch the films they have made.  We also provide a Visual Resources Page and a Media-Related News Blog.

This project has received generous support from MDOCS and Academic Technologies at Skidmore College.

For feedback and suggestions, please contact Jenny Huangfu Day at jhuangfu@skidmore.edu.
