Microsoft Surface Pro Tablet evaluation

I really enjoyed using the Surface. While this is a bit of a learning curve adjusting to a different interface, once you know the swipe and other gesture commands it is very intuitive. I appreciate the fact that you get the convenience and interface of a tablet along with a full operating system like a laptop. While this wouldn’t necessarily replace my laptop I would consider over an ipad or even a macbook air. I see this as a perfect alternative to a macbook air in that it appeals to the same type of buyer. It is extremely portable, supports microsoft office suite, you can play games, and view media. It’s very convenient switching between touching on the screen and typing with a physical keyboard. Overall it was portable, intuitive, and fun to...

Onlive desktop

Onlive Desktop This free iOs app transforms your iPad into a virtual Windows 7 computing environment. It lets you run and save MS Office documents (i.e., Word, Powerpoint, Excel). Also, the Internet Explorer browser runs natively. It’s important to note that files are not saved locally on the iPad. Instead, they are located in Onlive Desktop’s virtual storage area. While you save a document in the My Documents area or to the desktop, it’s actually stored in the cloud. This app requires internet connectivity. It does not have an off-line functionality. I highly recommend this app for users who want to use MS products on the...

Setting up a locked down web environment for in-class testing with Netop Vision Pro

A very nice feature of the classroom management software Netop Vision Pro is its ability to restrict web access in a computer lab. For example, let’s say you would like to administer an online quiz in Blackboard during class or to provide access to a library database or other select websites. Using Netop’s Site filter, you can limit a student workstation’s web access to these sites only. This ensures that only the appropriate access and research information is available to students during the test of other class activity. More information about Netop’s site filter can be found...
