Upcoming Events

The North Woods Stewards are excited to present three upcoming tours during July:

The History of the North Woods
Free and Open to the Public
1st Tour: Saturday, July 9th from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
2nd Tour: Saturday, July 30th from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

The present-day Skidmore College campus is located on land that prior to 1960 was known as Woodlawn Estate. Its grounds contained largely forested land with a large lawn, several elaborate estate homes and more than 20 miles of trails. Some of the historic carriage trails still remain and are part of the Skidmore North Woods trail system. On July 9th or July 30th, join Associate Professor and Chair of the Economics Department, Robert Jones, for a short historical overview and tour of theses trails and their changing presence in the North Woods. Participants should meet in Bolton Hall, Room 280, at 1:30pm for a brief slideshow. The tour in the woods will follow from 2:00-3:30pm.

Treasures of the Woods Tour
Free and Open to the Public
Saturday, July 23rd at 2pm

Join the North Woods Stewards as they identify treasures in the North Woods, such as plants, salamanders, and trees, and provide a student perspective on the trails. This walk will provide memorable and informative “nature nuggets” for participants of all ages. Participants should meet at 2pm by the kiosk in the Falstaff’s driveway by the main entrance to the North Woods.
