Sustainable Skidmore has created another internship opportunity that we hope to fill for the Spring 2013 semester. This is a perfect opportunity for a business student, but we are always open to anyone wanting to learn a new skill. Send us an email or stop into the office when your back on campus and share some of your ideas!
Take a look below for a quick description of the internship, or go to the jobs and internships tab and look for the full description at the bottom of the page.
Sustainable Skidmore Intern
Business Model Development:
Zero Waste Concession Stand for the Williamson Sports Center
Dates: Spring Semester 2013, approximately 6-10 hours/week
The internship requires 6-10 hours per week, based at Skidmore College. Primary responsibilities of the intern will be to work with Sustainable Skidmore, appropriate staff from Athletics, and student groups such as EAC to develop a business model that reflects the triple bottom line of sustainability for the Williamson Sports Center Concession Stand. Currently the concession stand is utilized as a fundraiser for teams in Athletics. Different teams take on the concession stand at different games, including during the Big Green Scream, an environmentally-themed event held during the last home basketball games for the men’s and women’s teams. The concession stand sells items such as individually packaged bags of chips, pizza, sports drinks, and other similar items. Athletics is willing to support the idea of a zero-waste initiative in the concession stand, if we can demonstrate how the teams will continue to make the same amount of money they typically make, if not more. We believe that through the creation of a sustainable business model that aims to make the concession stand zero waste, and combined with effective marketing during games, teams would make higher profits while reducing waste and pollution.
