Sustainability Representative (S-Rep)
Location: Skidmore College
Term: 2013-2014 Academic Year
Compensation: Single Room for the Price of a Double Room, 4 Hours per Week of Work
Sustainable Skidmore’s student S-Rep program is designed to increase the awareness of sustainability and inspire behavior change in the residence halls. S-Reps offer information on sustainability topics, serve as a sounding board for sustainability concerns in the residence halls and offer activities surrounding sustainability. They educate their residence hall mates about sustainability issues such as energy conservation and waste reduction and will help plan related activities in their residence halls.
S-Reps must attend fall training in late August and early September and weekly training and planning meetings (day and time TBA). Group meetings allow S-Reps time to plan activities and brainstorm actions to be taken in the residence halls throughout the year. Other duties include group activities, collaborative projects, and opportunities to represent the S-Rep Program at various campus events. All S-Reps will be housed in the halls where they will work. In addition to these more general activities, each S-Rep will also take on one focus area for the Fall semester. This should be a topic that they already have interest or experience in, or where the person wants to further develop their skills and knowledge. The topic areas which will be represented by the S-Reps include: Environmental Health & Justice, Energy & Climate, Transportation, Waste & Recycling, Food & Sustainable Agriculture, Composting, North Woods & Land Management, Green Building, Education & Awareness, and Marketing & Communication.
The Sustainable Skidmore Office is looking for creative, enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about sustainability. If hired, you will receive a single room for the price of a double room (a $600 value) and will have a room secured through pre-housing. Additionally, as an S-Rep you will develop a wide variety of skills, including leadership and peer education, effective communication skills, and experience of working with other passionate students. S-Reps report to two student S-Rep Managers and Rachel Willis, Sustainability Fellow.
